This is by far the cutest little party trend. Mini Piñatas are so cool and versatile, it can be used as party packs, decoration, place cards, a party activity for the kids or as take home gifts for your guests.
This is also perfect for the DIY party mom.
Here’s how you can make mini piñatas:
(found on evite)
What you’ll need:
- Empty cereal boxes
- Scissors
- Masking tape (painter’s tape)
- Party streamers or tissue paper or crinkle paper
- Double sided tape or glue
- Pen
- Printed template/outline
Step 1: Draw an outline for the piñata that you want to make or alternatively you can print out an image. Cut out the shape. Trace 2 of these shapes on the cereal box cardboard and cut them out.
Step 2: Cut out 1 inch strips from the cereal box cardboard. Lay them flat as shown in the photo and tape the 3 pieces together. Bend the strip to the shape of your piñata cardboard cut out and tape down as you go. (It’s a good idea to first run the strip between your hands to make it more pliable and easier to bend to the shapes you want.)
Step 3: Continue adding strips around your shape and taping it down with masking tape. Leave at least an inch not taped down. Remember to cut it a little longer so you can make a fold and fold it shut. Like a little door where you can add sweets and confetti.
Step 4: Take the party streamer or tissue paper (in the colour that you want to use) and cut little slits to create a fringe.
Step 5: Starting from the bottom, you can either wrap double sided tape around your pinata shape or smear it with glue. Then add a layer of fringed streamer. Work your way up the pinata, adding layer by layer in the colours of your choice.
Step 6: Do the same for the sides, you can use 1 inch strips and layer them from the bottom up.
Step 7: When you are finished with your piñata, you can fill it with sweets and confetti of your choice. Close it up, and seal it with masking tape if you like. Glue on any other decoration like cut out pieces of paper to add eyes or other little details.
These cute little piñatas are fun and festive. The possibilities are endless, you can adapt your template to fit any theme.
